kitchenaid woes

Anyone out there who knows about KitchenAid stand mixers? I have a tilt-head 5 quart oldie-but-goodie KSM90. I need to replace the baseplate -- if you don't know what that is, you probably shouldn't offer a suggestion. :) I have received the replacement part from KitchenAid customer service (twice!) but I just can't get it in. The old one was tight, but I was able to just drop it back in after taking it out. Any ideas?

This may be a dumb question, but did you call them about it? And if nothing can be accomplished by phone, is there someone they recommend to have fix it? As if there's actually a KitchenAid repairman with a shop around the corner, right? But, really, should this BE so hard? Maybe you should have Matt call...when he called about our blender (I think it was an Oster), they just sent us a whole new unit--and one that was even NICER than the one we had. Strange but good. I have no wisdom on the topic (obviously), but I wish you the best!

You're right...it SHOULDN'T be this hard!!!! I have talked with them 3 times now. The first time I ordered, the second time for the replacement because the first didn't fit, and today because the replacement is identical to the replacement! To their credit, they are having me send back the original one and crediting my purchase price, so if I can get this thing to fit, it'll be for "free" (allegedly -- what about my time?) Anyway, they have been really, really nice, but it still doesn't work.

The nearest authorized KA mixer repair that they could recommend is up in Northern Almost Mexico, about 2 hours away (we're in Southern Almost Mexico). I would love a new one, but I don't think they'd replace a 12 year old machine!!!! I got a replacement Cuisinart blender when we were up with you in Almost Canada because the motor burned out after 9 months, so I now have 1 base and two pitchers/blade assemblies -- which has been really handy a few times.

Is Matt on retainer? :) I have a feeling I'm just not ramming the thing in hard enough, but I don't want to damage it.

So sorry for your frustrations! Maybe call Kirsten--I saw on her blog this week that she's really handy with a hammer. ;)

I had no idea that the base plate could even come out! So I am no help! But I wanted to say hello!
